AquaGrow Farms is now bigger and better than ever! Throughout this past summer and fall, we have been hard at work designing and constructing an expansion to our existing aquaponics farm. Our farm has expanded from 500 to 800 square feet and has the capacity to grow three times more greens and fish for our food bank clients!
In addition to the increased size of the farm, we added two more raft tanks to grow greens, a seedling nursery, and a third fish tank! We also have new metal halide lights to help speed up the growth of our vegetables on top of our existing LED lights.
What does this mean?
With this expansion we hope to double our yield of greens (from 54 heads/week to 108 heads/week) and increase the frequency of our fish harvests (from once every 3 months to once every 2 months). Overall, this translates to an estimated total of 28,000 servings of greens and 2,500 servings of fish produced on AquaGrow Farms per year!
Stay tuned to learn more about the new components within our farm and to see how it progresses over the next few months.
