It’s been 2 weeks since we introduced the Romaine seeds into the seedling tray and now they’re ready to be transplanted! The seeds have sprouted into seedlings with “true leaves” as well as long roots to take up nutrients.
From here, we separate the rockwool sheets into individual cubes, which contain one seedling each. The rockwool cubes are then squeezed into holes within our styrofoam rafts, which are set afloat in our growing beds. Now within a new environment, the seedlings will benefit from stronger lighting and a constant supply of nutrient rich water to grow as quickly as possible until they’re ready to be harvested to feed our hungry neighbours!
